Someone on a plumbing forum told me I was using too much flux on copper joints and they were dead right

I had been doing my own sweat fittings for about 2 years, always slathering on that thick layer of flux because I thought more meant better seal. Then a guy named Mike from Tucson commented on my pic of a joint and said the excess was gonna cause pinhole leaks down the road. I brushed it off for a month until I pulled apart a joint I did 6 months prior and saw green corrosion eating through. Switched to a thin even coating and my joints have been cleaner ever since. Anybody else get handed a reality check by a random forum stranger?

That green corrosion is exactly what Mike warned you about, and it's wild how many guys still think more flux is better. Did you ever check if your water chemistry made it worse than it would have been otherwise?

Did your friend ever find out if that guy Mike was a actual plumber or just some random DIY guy who got lucky? I had a buddy who ignored similar advice from a forum and ended up repiping his whole basement two years later.
