That guy on Reddit back in 2018 who called the exact date of the GameStop surge
I remember scrolling through r/wallstreetbets three years before it all happened. Some random user posted a thread saying 'If you aren't long on GME by Feb 2021 you're gonna miss the boat.' I laughed and scrolled past. Then January 2021 hit and I remembered that post. Dug it up later and the date was off by like 2 weeks. Still. How does someone just know that? Did they have a buddy at a hedge fund or was it just dumb luck? Anyone else got a prediction they ignored that turned out dead on?

I used to be pretty skeptical about people who claimed to have called big market moves early. Figured it was mostly luck or hindsight bias. But going back and finding that exact post from 2018 with a 2021 timeframe really made me stop and think differently. It's not just about the date being close either, it's the conviction behind it. Made me realize there are probably a lot more people out there with real insight than we give credit for.

yeah man, i feel you on that. the whole "called it" thing is easy to brush off until you actually see the receipts. like that post you found, the conviction part is huge - anyone can throw out a random date, but when they really drill down on why and how they think it's gonna happen, that's different. makes you wanna go hunting for more of those old threads to see what other gems are out there. @ivan_harris you nailed it with that "conviction behind it" line, that's the real tell.

That "conviction" thing shows up everywhere, not just in markets.
