That time a dental school blog from 2018 predicted the whole invisalign shortage
I found an old post from a student at UNC talking about how their lab was running out of aligner trays months before COVID hit. Makes you wonder what other small warnings are sitting in old forum threads right now.

That blog post was probably more about a specific supply chain hiccup than any major trend. Labs run out of materials all the time, especially when student patients are getting treatment. It's not like they predicted a global pandemic or anything. People love to retroactively assign importance to random observations. By that logic, any mention of a slow elevator is a warning about the building collapsing.

Oh come on, there's actually more to it than you think lol. I read that same blog post a few months ago and it wasn't just about one lab running low on trays. The student was talking about how multiple suppliers were delaying shipments and how their clinic had to start rationing aligners for months. Its not about predicting COVID specifically, but the blog did show how fragile the whole aligner supply chain was even back then. That kind of stuff matters when you realize how many people rely on these labs for treatment. Dismissing it as just a random hiccup misses the point about how interconnected everything is.
