Always thought those 'dark patterns' in apps were overblown until I caught one costing me $15 a month
Found out through a tech reporter's deep dive that a streaming service I used was hiding a cheaper plan in a buried menu - the default double-charged me for 4 months. Where else are these tricks hiding that we just accept?

That really stinks, sorry you had to deal with that. Same thing happened to me with a cell phone plan where they had a cheaper prepaid option but never told existing customers about it. It's crazy how these companies rely on people not digging through menus or reading the fine print. Grocery stores do a similar thing with "discount" cards that actually track everything you buy and sell the data. Have you checked your insurance lately? I found out mine had a basic plan buried in a PDF on their site that was way cheaper than what they auto-renewed me on.

Haven't you heard that companies spend billions studying how to make it just annoying enough to cancel or find better deals? It's like they count on you giving up after clicking through five menus.
