DAE feel like the real story on that big tech layoff last month was missed?

I read the headline about 10,000 jobs cut, but digging into the company's SEC filing showed they hired 8,000 contractors in India the same quarter... which the news didn't connect at all.

Yeah that's the real story. They're just swapping out expensive jobs for cheap ones. Classic move.

So what's the end goal then? Just cut costs forever and hope nobody notices the work getting worse?

Just outsourcing with extra steps, what a shock.

Exactly. This is just the same old story playing out again. My old company did this exact thing a few years back. They hired a bunch of remote folks in another country and slowly phased out the local people who actually knew the product inside and out. The quality dropped fast because the new people had zero context on the history or the weird little quirks of the software. Management acted surprised when customers started complaining, like they didn't see it coming. It's all about the short term savings, they never care about the long term damage. You're spot on, it's outsourcing with extra steps and a fancy name.
