I finally looked into that 'missing' plane story from a few months back

You know the one, about the flight that vanished and the news kept saying 'no trace found'? I got curious and spent a whole evening digging. The headlines made it sound like a total mystery, but the real story is way more about air traffic control gaps over the ocean. I found an old report from 2018 that said the specific radar system in that area hadn't been updated in over a decade. It wasn't some crazy event, it was a known problem that got ignored until a big news story happened. It really changed how I see those 'breaking news' alerts. They focus on the drama, not the boring, fixable reasons things go wrong. Has anyone else found a news story where the real cause was just plain old neglect?

Disagree, sometimes the drama is the real story and the neglect is just a boring footnote.

You're right about the drama being the story, it's like my own to-do list! I'll ignore the leaky faucet for months, but the second the ceiling tile falls in, it's a full blown household emergency. News feels the same way, they report the collapsed ceiling, not the ten years of me going "eh, I'll fix that drip later.

Wait, you ignored a leak for ten years?
