You said you don't trust anything online anymore. Does that mean you've just given up on trying to figure out what's true, or do you have a new way you check stuff? I get the feeling, but shutting it all out seems like letting the liars win.

Take that one story you're thinking of. There were multiple versions of it going around and most of them had different timelines and sources. The one that "fell apart" was probably the most dramatic version, not the core event itself. I dug into a few of the source articles and found the less exciting version had way more documentation and actual witnesses.
