My coworker swore by a $0 Twitter tip for finding fake news, then it backfired on live TV
Back in March, my buddy Dave in the newsroom told me to always check the account creation date before retweeting anything breaking. He said old accounts are safe, new ones are bots. So I skipped a wild claim from a 2019 account about a tornado in Tulsa because I figured it was solid. Turns out it was a parody account that fooled everyone for 45 minutes, and I missed the real warning from the weather service. I called Dave out and he just shrugged, said his rule works 9 times out of 10. Has anyone else had a vetting trick that failed at the worst possible moment?
