My dad told me to ignore the 'crisis' headlines about the local factory closing
He said to check the county tax records, which showed the company had just paid for a 10-year permit renewal six months ago. Sure enough, the 'closing' was just one outdated production line, and they're actually adding 50 new jobs in the automation wing next year. Has anyone else had a family member give them a piece of advice that cut through the media noise like that?

That's a solid tip about checking records. Still feels like a gamble to ignore all the headlines though, since sometimes the crisis is real. Your dad's method probably works best for local stuff you can actually verify.

Yeah but spencer_gonzalez1, that gamble is the whole point.

Exactly, that gamble is the whole fun of it, otherwise you're just following the crowd.

My last road trip I skipped the traffic app warnings and saved two hours. Honestly young.michael is right, taking that chance is the only way to win sometimes. You gotta trust your gut over the noise.
