Spent 4 hours fixing a leaky shower head that should've taken 20 minutes

Last Saturday I decided to swap out my old shower head in my apartment on Elm Street. The new one wouldn't stop dripping no matter how tight I cranked it, so I ended up taking three separate trips to the hardware store. Turns out the old pipe threads were corroded from hard water buildup and I needed a brass adapter that nobody told me about. Has anyone else run into a simple home fix that just snowballed into a whole day project?

Amateur hour" is a little harsh @leewood. I'll give you that a third trip is rookie numbers but four hours is still a solid afternoon of getting things wrong. My record is six hours for a single shelf because I kept buying the wrong anchors. The real test is when you finally get the right part and realize you forgot the tool to install it.
