Can we talk about how a museum volunteer made me rethink the whole Van Gogh thing in about 20 seconds
I was at the Art Institute in Chicago last spring and a volunteer near the sunflowers said something like "everyone comes for the ear story, almost nobody looks at the brush marks." That got me looking, and honestly the paintings hold up way more than the legend around him does. Am I wrong for thinking the myth is doing most of the heavy lifting here, or does the actual paint earn it for anyone else?
