Got dragged to a Kurt Cobain tribute night and I swear half the crowd never even heard Nirvana

My buddy made me go to this bar in Portland last Friday for a Kurt Cobain cover show. The place was packed with people wearing flannel they bought at Target that same day. I asked this one girl what her favorite song was and she said "Smells Like Teen Spirit" which is fine but when I pressed her on "Drain You" she just stared at me. Has anyone else noticed how many people pretend to be huge fans of dead musicians just to fit in at these events?

Would pressing her on "Breed" have gotten the same blank stare? lol. I swear the deeper cuts are where you catch the fakes every time. Last year I went to a David Bowie tribute and this dude in front of me kept calling him "Bowie" like they were old buddies, then couldn't name a single album after the 80s. It's always the same pattern, they show up in the uniform, know the three biggest hits, and bail when someone starts talking about the B-sides or even the second verse of a deep track.

Bowie" like they were buddies? That's WILD, man. Straight up cringe.

Ha, exactly! It's always the same script with those types.
