Got told my grandma's famous pie crust was 'soggy' and it stung

Made her apple pie for a family dinner last Sunday. My aunt took one bite and said the bottom crust was raw. I was so mad at first. But she was right. That 'family recipe' everyone raves about? It's the same one my grandma always rushed. Turned out she never blind baked the bottom shell. Now I do a 10 minute pre-bake at 400 degrees before adding the filling. That one piece of feedback fixed everything. Anyone else have a family recipe that was actually a little broken?

oh for sure, family recipes are more about nostalgia than technique half the time. my mom's "famous" meatloaf was basically a brick until i added a cup of milk and some breadcrumbs. sometimes the "secret ingredient" is just the confidence to fix it.

I read somewhere that most family recipes are just survival adaptations. Nostalgia flavor.
