John Lennon is fine but the Beatles worship gets out of hand

I sat through a 3-hour Beatles lecture at a bar in Austin where this guy cried during "Hey Jude" and I'm like, dude, they broke up in 1970, get a grip. Has anyone else had to fake being impressed by a dead celebrity just to fit in at a party?

I once cried at a Shania Twain karaoke night and had to explain to strangers that no, I wasn't going through a breakup, I just really respect her business acumen.

My friend Sarah went to a dinner party where this guy had a whole shrine to Kurt Cobain in his living room. Candles, photos, a worn-out flannel shirt framed on the wall like it was the Mona Lisa. She accidentally knocked over a candle trying to grab her coat, and the guy acted like she'd defiled a grave. She had to pretend to be super sorry while biting her lip from laughing. Made me think maybe we should start making shrines for like, Crunchwrap Supremes instead.

That Kurt Cobain shrine story actually kinda made me get it now.
