Just realized how many people pretend to love Kurt Cobain but can't name 3 Nirvana songs

I was at a party last weekend near Portland and someone had a Nirvana shirt on. I asked them what their favorite deep cut was and they just stared at me and said "Smells Like Teen Spirit." It got me thinking how half the people who act devastated about his death probably couldn't pick his voice out of a lineup. Has anyone else noticed this with other dead celebs like Jim Morrison or Amy Winehouse?

I get what you're saying about people treating "Smells Like Teen Spirit" like the only song, but I see it a little differently. Lots of folks connect with Kurt's story or what he stood for without being diehard fans who know every B-side. I grew up listening to Nirvana tapes in my buddy's basement and I still can't name five songs off the top of my head, but his voice and that angst hit me just as hard back then.

Yeah, that's totally fair. I'm the same way with a bunch of bands from that era. I can hum the guitar riff from "Come As You Are" but if you asked me the lyrics I'd just be staring at you blankly.

Make a playlist of their most streamed songs and just let it play on shuffle while you drive.
