Just realized people only pretend to like Kurt Cobain's music

I was at a bar in Austin last month and they played 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' three times in one hour. Nobody sang along or even nodded their heads. My friend admitted he only listens to Nirvana because of the suicide story, not the actual riffs.

Wait, are you telling me you really think people don't actually like his music? Because I've been a diehard Nirvana fan since I was a teenager and I can't count how many times I sat in my room alone just listening to "Something in the Way" on repeat. Sure, some people jump on the bandwagon after the tragedy, but that doesn't erase the ones who genuinely connect with the raw sound and emotion. I saw them live back in the day at a small club show and the room exploded when they played "Drain You," not just the big hits. You gotta remember that a lot of people at bars are just there to drink and chat, not treat the playlist like a sacred experience. Maybe your friend is the outlier, not the rule, because Kurt's songwriting still hits me like a brick to the chest even now.

Used to think he was a genius until I saw people ignore his best songs live.

Did your friend ever catch the show where the band had to stop mid song because the crowd was just dead silent and staring at their phones? My buddy went to a festival set once and said people talked through "Heart Shaped Box" like it was background noise at a coffee shop.
