Kurt Cobain worship needs to STOP already
I used to think Nirvana was the greatest band ever when I was 16, but after actually listening to their full catalog as an adult, half the songs are just noise with mumbled words. Then I read that book about the Seattle scene and found out how much of his myth was manufactured by record labels after he died. Why do people act like he was some musical genius instead of just a guy who got lucky with a couple hits?

Yikes, reminds me of the time my friend's band tried to play "Lithium" at prom and the guitarist broke a string during the first chorus.

Grabbed a bootleg live recording of theirs the other day from some dusty corner of the internet. Sounded like a dying cat in a trash compactor. I get that they had a moment but the whole "deep tortured artist" thing feels like a story we all agreed to tell each other so we could feel smart about liking grungy guitar sounds.

Buddy of mine dragged me to a Nirvana cover band show a few years back. The singer was wearing a blonde wig and a flannel shirt, trying to hit those high notes and just squeaking through them. He kept stopping between songs to talk about Kurt's pain and how we should all feel it, real dramatic stuff. The whole place was packed with people nodding along like they were at a sermon. I whispered to my friend that the real Kurt would have puked on stage and walked off five minutes in. He just shrugged and ordered another beer.
