My granddad swore by Bob Hope, but man was he overrated

I grew up watching Bob Hope specials with my granddad in Ohio, he thought the guy was a genius. But I tried watching one of his old movies last year and I could not get through 20 minutes of it, the jokes were so slow. The timing just doesn't work now, I think people back then were starved for anything after the war. Has anyone else gone back and watched an old legend and realized they just aren't that funny anymore?

Oh yeah, try his radio broadcasts instead, they hold up way better.

Hang on, Who's On First still kills? Are we talking about the same bit?

My granddad loved those old Abbott and Costello films so I sat down to watch Who's On First with him a few years back and honestly it still kills me. The pacing is slower sure but the wordplay and timing hit different when you listen close instead of waiting for punchlines every five seconds. Maybe give Hope's radio stuff a shot if you haven't, it's a whole different vibe than the movies.
