My history teacher called Walt Disney a businessman, not a genius, and 15 years later I finally get it
Back in 11th grade in Sacramento my teacher said Walt Disney's real talent was selling toys, not making art, and I argued with her so hard I got sent to the hall. Fast forward to now, I sat through a whole Disney documentary and counted more shots of merch than actual story. She was right, the parks and the plush dolls came first and the movies were basically ads for both. Every time somebody calls him a visionary I think about her grading my essay with a big red C. Does anyone else have an old teacher who was right way before you were ready to hear it?
