Overheard a guy at a coffee shop say Kurt Cobain's music was 'mid' and it got me thinking

He said Nirvana was just loud noise for sad teenagers, but I've also heard people call them the voice of a generation. Is Cobain actually overrated or do we just pretend he changed music because he died young? What's your take?

Did he ever say what he actually thought was good instead?" You're kidding, right? The guy spent twenty minutes ranting about how everything was trash and then just walked away when someone asked him what he liked. I half expected him to pull out a list but nope, just silence and a shrug.
