Spent 15 years nodding along to Jim Morrison, then my buddy played me 2 songs last month and I just sat there
When I was 19 I had the big poster and the poetry books and I'd argue with anyone who called The Doors overrated. Last month a friend in Cleveland put on two tracks back to back and I felt nothing, just a guy mumbling over a carnival organ. Now I wonder if I was ever really into the music or just into how it looked on a dorm wall. So which is it, is Morrison the real deal and I got old, or did we all just agree to pretend because the leather pants were cool? Genuinely want the other side here.
Man, I feel this one. I did the same thing with a band I swore was the best ever, then heard them years later and just kind of shrugged. That gut drop when you realize the poster mattered more than the record is real and it stings a bit. But here's the thing, some stuff hits you at 19 because everything hits hard at 19, and that does not mean you were faking it back then. You were into it for real, you were just a different guy with different ears. Give the two tracks another spin in a month and see what happens, sometimes it comes back around and sometimes it does not, and both are fine.
