That Elvis impersonator convention in Vegas ruined the King for me
Overheard three guys arguing over whether he died on the toilet or not while a 60-year-old in a jumpsuit lip-synced Love Me Tender, and I realized how fake this whole worship thing really is.

A convention full of people fighting over bathroom deaths while a guy in a cheap jumpsuit mumbles through a song does sound pretty rough. But you can't let some bad actors at a tribute show ruin the actual music. Plenty of people enjoy a good Elvis song on the radio without dressing up or arguing about anything. Seems like you just stumbled into the deep end of a swimming pool and got surprised it was wet.

So you're saying the fan culture is what ruins it, not the music itself? Where do you draw the line between enjoying the songs and getting sucked into the weirdness around it? Because that line seems to get real blurry at tribute shows.

You ever tried just listening to his older Sun Records stuff instead? Stick with the raw studio tracks, skip the Vegas spectacles and you'll remember why the guy was good in the first place.
