I used to slap bolts back in dry and call it good, now I wire-brush and hit them with anti-seize every time because he showed me a bottom bracket bolt that had basically welded itself in after two winters of road salt. Anyone else got a fix their mentor drilled into them that felt pointless at the time?
My old boss did the same thing with battery terminals. He made me pull every cable, scrub the posts with a wire brush, and coat them in dielectric grease before I could put the car back together. I thought he was just making me kill time on slow days until my own truck started eating batteries every 8 months from corrosion creeping under the clamp. Now I do it on every single car and it adds maybe 10 minutes but saves people a tow. That 20 minutes your guy spends is nothing compared to drilling out a snapped bolt on a rusty frame.
