Hot take: I thought wheel truing stands were overkill for home shops
A guy named Pete who runs a small repair co-op in Akron talked me out of that idea over coffee about a month ago. He asked me how many wheels I had scrapped by eye and then showed me a rim he had brought back to within half a millimeter on a stand he built from scrap pipe. What got me was his point that the stand is not about speed, it is about being able to see the wobble and trust the number. I picked up a used one for $85 at a swap meet in Dayton three weeks back, and my first rebuild went dead straight on the first try. Curious what you all use for a dishing gauge, because that is the next gap in my setup.
