I finally stopped hating drum brakes after one shop visit

For years I'd refuse any repair job with drum brakes, told customers they were junk and pushed disc conversions. Then last Tuesday an 80 year old woman brought in a 1979 Schwinn that still had original drums, and my coworker Mike spent 40 minutes showing me how the cam wear pattern was the real issue, not the brake design. He adjusted the eccentric and the thing stopped better than some new bikes I've assembled. Made me rethink how much of my opinion was just repeating what other mechanics said versus actually learning the system. Anybody else ever flip on a component they wrote off early in their career?
