Lost a whole afternoon to a cheap headset press that bent
I mean, I got this no-name headset press from an online deal for like 25 bucks. Figured it would be fine for a few jobs. The first time I used it, the main shaft just bent when I tried to press a lower cup into a steel frame. Totally wrecked the cup too, so I had to order a new one. Idk, maybe it's just me but has anyone found a decent budget press that actually holds up?

That reminds me of the time my buddy tried to use a bench vise instead.

Wait, did he break the vise or the tool?

Is it really that big of a deal though? A bent press sucks but it's a 25 dollar tool, you get what you pay for. I'd just bite the bullet and get a park tool one used, they last forever.

Ugh, that's the worst feeling when you think you're saving money and it just totally backfires... I actually saw someone online mention that a lot of those cheap presses are made with like, hollow shafts instead of solid metal, so they bend under any real load. @ray173 that vise thing reminds me of a horror story I read where a guy's vise cracked right in half. It's not really about being a big deal or not, it's that a wasted afternoon and a ruined part just stings way more than the money you thought you saved.

@phoenix_martin40 yeah man, my buddy learned that one the hard way. He grabbed a cheap harbor freight press to save like 40 bucks, first time he used it the ram just bent and now it's basically a paperweight. Ruined his whole weekend trying to fix it.
