That customer who swore by zip ties for cable routing had a point
Last Tuesday a guy rolls in with an old touring bike, cables all over the place, and he insists I ditch the housing guides and just zip tie everything to the frame. I figured he was nuts, but he was polite and it was a slow day, so I tried it on the rear derailleur line. Rode it around the block twice and the shifting was actually snappier, no rattling at all. Has anyone else found that bypassing the factory guides works for certain frames, or did I just get lucky with his weird setup?
