That time a customer showed me a cassette with all the teeth snapped off
A guy in Denver brought in a bike last summer with a cassette where every single tooth on the middle gear was sheared clean off, and he said he thought it was just normal shifting noise for six months before it finally slipped right off the chain on a climb, has anyone else seen damage that bad from just ignoring it?

Your mileage may vary but I used to be the guy who would just ignore noises like that. I thought "eh it'll either go away or I'll deal with it later." Then I had a rear derailleur explode on me on a steep climb because I ignored a clicking sound for months. That being said hearing about someone riding for six months with a cassette that had literally no teeth on the middle ring is wild. That level of damage makes me think the chain was already stretched to hell and he was probably cross chaining a lot too. Definitely changed my tune on getting things checked out sooner rather than later.
