Found out The Wire only had 60 episodes total and it blew my mind

I was looking up something about The Wire on Wikipedia after my third rewatch and saw it only ran for 5 seasons with 60 episodes. That felt small for a show this big. I always thought it had way more episodes because of how deep the story goes. Has anyone else been surprised by a show's episode count like that?

The Wire packed more world building into those 60 hours than most shows do in twice that many episodes. Each season felt like a complete novel with its own focused theme, from the drug trade to the docks to the schools. That tight structure is probably why the show holds up so well on rewatches, every scene serves a purpose.

Did your friend ever catch that thing Marlo does with his hands when he's about to make a move... It's so subtle but says everything. I had a buddy who was a huge fan, he'd pause every episode just to rewatch those little moments. He once said The Wire taught him more about how cities work than a whole semester of college. That tight structure you mentioned, it's like every character's a piece of the same puzzle, you know? Makes you appreciate the little beats even more on a rewatch.

Man that reminds me, I had a buddy who used to freeze frames of Omar's pink shirt in different lighting just to figure out what exact shade it was. Drove me crazy but he swore it told him something about the scene mood. Weird what people latch onto in that show.
