Hit 50 episodes of The Leftovers in one weekend and it messed me up
Was just going to watch the pilot and next thing I knew it was Sunday night and I had finished the whole first two seasons. That show has this weird slow burn that just hooks you deeper every episode. Has anyone else gotten completely absorbed by a show they weren't even sure they'd like at first?

Saw an interview with Damon Lindelof where he said the whole show is about whether people can actually handle knowing the truth, which makes total sense rewatching it. The way they just drop you into that world with no hand holding is pretty bold for network TV. Those first few episodes almost lost me with how slow they felt, but by the end of season one I was completely invested in every character's weird little journey. Your mileage may vary but that show really earns its reputation for being emotionally brutal.

Oh man, I feel this so hard. I did the exact same thing with The Leftovers last year, started on a Friday night thinking I'd watch one episode and by Monday I was a total wreck. The pacing is brutal but that's what makes it work, you don't even realize how heavy it's getting until you're just sitting there staring at the credits. That slow burn thing you mentioned is real, it's like the show tricks you into caring about these characters before you fully understand what's happening. I was so unsure about it after the first few episodes but now I can't stop recommending it to people even though I have to warn them it'll ruin their weekend.

@wren230 nailed it with that Lindelof take... show just sneaks up and breaks you before you even know what hit you.
