I used to fast-forward through every intro until last week
I was watching The Expanse and skipped the opening credits like I always do, then my wife asked if I knew the ship names were in the sequence. Turns out the intro changes each season with hidden details about the plot, and I missed all of them for 5 seasons. Anyone else realize they've been skipping something important the whole time?

3 minutes into the first episode of Game of Thrones I realized the intro map was showing me exactly where things were happening that season. I still skipped it every single time after that because honestly, that kind of stuff doesn't add anything to my enjoyment of the show. The ship names in The Expanse are a neat detail but not knowing them didn't change a single thing about how I understood the story. People get way too worked up about missing little easter eggs that the creators hid in the credits. You probably didn't miss anything important, you just saved yourself a couple minutes of your life every episode.

Wait, did you actually skip the GoT intro every time? I gotta say the map changed each episode, showing you the exact locations for that week. So it wasn't just a map, it was literally telling you where the story was going. @thomasgonzalez I get skipping credits and stuff, that's fair. But the showrunners put those map details in for a reason, they helped you keep track of who was where. You probably didn't lose sleep over it, but you definitely missed some cool foreshadowing that made the payoff better later.

Did you catch that article on io9 a while back about how the Westworld intro changed between seasons with subtle hints about the hosts' programming? lol I remember reading it and thinking "well crap, I've been skipping that too." The Expanse is a whole different level though, those ship names changing across 5 seasons is wild. I get what Thomas is saying about not needing easter eggs to enjoy a show, but for me those details are like little rewards for paying attention. It's the difference between watching something and actually being immersed in it, you know? Especially with shows that build complex worlds, those intro hints can make rewatches way more fun when you catch stuff you missed the first time.
