My brother told me to skip the first season of 'The Wire', said it was too slow. I did, and I've never been more confused in my life.

Oh man, that is a TERRIBLE piece of advice. The first season sets up EVERYTHING. You meet Avon, Stringer, and the whole Barksdale crew. You see how McNulty and the detectives start their case. Skipping it is like starting a book at chapter ten. No wonder you're lost. You gotta go back and watch it from the start.

Right, starting a book at chapter ten. That's the perfect way to put it. So what part did your friend try to jump into on Breaking Bad? Like @the_robin mentioned, that show is all about the slow burn change in Walter. Skip the start and you miss why any of it matters. The Wire is the same. You need to see the pieces get set on the board.

Funny thing nobody's brought up yet, @tessap73 - the first season of The Wire is also where you learn the language of the show. If you skip it, you don't know what "the pit" is, why everyone's so scared of Omar's shotgun, or why a kid selling Newports is a big deal. That slow setup isn't just boring TV, it's your Rosetta Stone for the whole city. Did you at least look up a summary before jumping into season 2, or are you still lost?

Totally agree with @brooket43, my friend did the same thing with Breaking Bad and missed all the setup.
