My sister called my 14 episode kdrama a 'slow burn' and now I question everything
So last night my sister walked in while I was on episode 9 of this Korean drama where the leads finally held hands, and she said 'this isnt slow burn, this is just boring pacing.' I got defensive at first, but then I rewatched a few scenes and she might be right. The show has 16 episodes total and almost nothing happens until ep 12, so I spent like 9 hours on setup. We argued about what actually counts as a slow burn versus a writer stalling, and she pointed out that my favorite American series does more in one 45 minute episode. Has anyone else had that moment where someone reframed a show you loved and you couldnt unsee it? Or do you think drawn out romance is part of the genre charm?

Boring pacing is when the writers are too scared to just let the characters be together. A real slow burn gives you little crumbs the whole way, a look, a almost touch, a jealous moment in ep 3. Nine hours of nothing isnt slow, its just stalling so they can fill 16 eps. Your sister broke it for you and now you cant go back. Pretty sure half the kdramas out there do the same thing and we just call it charm.
