My whole watch party got a massive spoiler from a random YouTube thumbnail

We were four episodes into the new season of 'Severance' at my place in Tacoma. I got up to grab snacks and my phone buzzed with a YouTube notification. The video title was something like 'THAT Character's Shocking Death Explained' with a huge picture of the person right there. I yelled 'NO' and threw my phone on the couch. We all saw it and the next two episodes were totally ruined because we were just waiting for it to happen. Has anyone found a good way to block those kinds of thumbnails on your phone?

Yeah, I actually read something similar to what harperr82 mentioned. There's this ad blocker called uBlock Origin that can do keyword filtering, but you have to use it on Firefox mobile since Chrome on Android doesn't support extensions well. I tried setting it up last year for a different show and it worked okay. You basically add phrases like "season 5 finale" or character names to a block list and it hides those thumbnails. Takes maybe 10 minutes to get the hang of it. I still got a few spoilers through, but way less than before. Your mileage may vary though, especially if you watch on an iPhone since the browser rules are different there.

Saw a tech blog say some ad blockers can filter YouTube thumbnails by keywords. You'd have to set it up on your phone browser, not the app. It sounded like a hassle but maybe worth it for big shows.

Wait, you can actually block thumbnails? That changes everything. I get so tired of seeing the same clickbait faces for shows I don't watch. My whole feed is just people yelling with red arrows. If I could just make all that vanish, I'd use the browser forever. It sounds totally worth the setup time.

But honestly, @jenny_lane12, that setup sounds way too annoying for a few less thumbnails.
