Netflix paid $100 million to keep 'Friends' for one more year and that fact broke my brain
I was reading an article on Vulture about how streaming services decide what to keep and the number for Friends floored me. Netflix reportedly dropped around $100 million just to license that show for 2019 alone, which is wild when you think about how many other shows they could make for that money. It made me realize why some of my favorites get pulled after two seasons with no warning. Does anyone else check what a show costs to stream before getting attached, or is that just me being paranoid?
Thought people were being dramatic about this stuff until I saw that $100 million number, which is more than most shows get for their whole run lol. Now when a new show gets canceled after a season or two I just assume the math didn't work out, and I try not to get too attached too fast. It's a bummer but at least it explains the randomness of it all.
