Overheard someone say 'Stranger Things season 4 was too slow' and it got me thinking

Was at a coffee shop in Portland last Tuesday and heard this dude complaining to his friend that Stranger Things season 4 dragged too much. Said he fast forwarded through whole parts of the Russia storyline. I kind of get it though because I remember checking my phone during those Hopper prison episodes. But does anyone else think the slow build actually made the finale hit harder or was it just filler to stretch the season?

Honestly, the slow parts in season 4 were basically the Duffer brothers trying to show us how broken everyone was. Ngl, if they had just jumped straight into the action, we wouldn't have felt the weight of the Vecna reveal or the way the kids had to actually struggle. Tbh, the Russia scenes with Hopper were hard to watch but they made his reunion with Eleven hit way different. Most people forget that season 3 was nonstop chaos and a lot of fans complained that it felt shallow. Sometimes dragging things out is the only way to make the emotional payoff land.

Think this applies to a ton of stuff now, everyone wants instant results and forgets the best things take time to cook. Reminds me of how people binge Netflix in one night then complain the next day they don't remember anything.
