Spent a whole weekend comparing Severance to Mr. Robot and one of them holds up way better

I rewatched both shows back to back to settle a debate with my coworker and the difference in pacing was wild. Severance had me hooked from episode 1 while Mr. Robot took until season 2 to really click, even though the themes are super similar. Has anyone else tried comparing two shows like this and found one just works better for binging?

Man I felt this in my bones. I did the same thing with BoJack Horseman and The Good Place over a long weekend and one of them just felt way more rewatchable. For me Severance had that mystery hook from the jump but Mr. Robot's first season felt like homework until the plot really opened up. Sometimes shows just click faster for the binge format even if the deeper themes are similar.

The bit about "homework" is exactly how I felt about Mr. Robot. I actually tried to marathon both shows last year and ended up dropping Mr. Robot halfway through season one because I kept zoning out. Severance had this weird vibe from the first scene that just grabbed me and didn't let go. I think the biggest difference is Severance lets you figure things out at your own pace while Mr. Robot kept throwing these cryptic monologues at me that felt like I was missing something. Not saying one is better overall, but for a weekend binge Severance wins by a mile for me.

Honestly that's a really good point about the homework feeling. When you watched Mr. Robot did you ever catch yourself pausing to look stuff up online or rewind scenes just to get what was happening? I had that problem bad with the whole fsociety stuff in season one and it killed the vibe for binging. Severance just let me sit back and enjoy the weirdness without needing a guide.
