Watched The Bear on my phone at lunch, then on the TV, and I was missing half the show
I binged the whole first season of The Bear on my phone during lunch breaks over about 3 weeks. I liked it but felt kind of meh about all the hype. Then my wife wanted to watch it too, so we restarted it on the living room TV last month. Totally different show. The kitchen scenes are chaos, and on a phone screen I was only catching the dialogue. On the big screen I could see all the little looks between Carmy and Sydney, the tickets piling up in the background, the way the camera shakes during dinner rush. There is a scene in episode 7 where the whole thing is one long take, and I honestly did not even notice that on my phone. On the TV it hit me like a wall. If you binged something recent on a small screen and felt let down, try one episode on the biggest screen you have before you give up on it. What show did you totally underrate until you watched it the right way?
Did the same thing happen to you with the sound too, or just the picture? Because for me it was the audio mix that really changed things. On my phone, all the yelling in the kitchen just mushed together into noise, but on TV with the speakers, you can pick out every single voice yelling different orders at once. There's that scene where Richie is screaming about the pasta and you can hear Sydney calmly calling tickets underneath it the whole time. That layer was completely gone on my phone. So are you watching stuff on TV first now, or do you still sneak episodes on your phone?
