Watched the first season of that new detective show and the second season is a totally different vibe

The first ten episodes were all about the main character solving small town mysteries, but season two jumps ahead five years and he's suddenly a federal agent in a big city. It feels like a completely different program now. Anyone else feel like a show changed genres on them halfway through?

Yeah, that "totally different vibe" is a total genre switch.

The "full genre jump" is exactly right. It's not just adding a new instrument, it's a whole different rule book for how the song is built. They went from four on the floor dance beats to a shuffle rhythm, that's a foundational change. It would be like a horror movie director putting a straight up romantic comedy scene in the middle of their film. The whiplash is the point, I guess, but it sure makes for a weird listen.

Honestly @oliver855, what makes you call it a genre switch? Like, is it the sound or the lyrics that changed?

The guitar tone on track 3 is straight up country rock, like a 180 from their usual synth stuff. Oliver855 is right about the vibe shift, but it's way more than just lyrics. The whole production changed, they brought in pedal steel and everything. It sounds like a different band made that song. I'm still shocked they put it on the same album as their electronic dance tracks. That's not a small change, that's a full genre jump.
