That viral 'studio lights' fail where the boom mic drops into frame every single time
I watched a cooking show rerun from last week where a boom mic swung down and hit the chef's head three times before someone noticed... it's like nobody on set bothered to watch the playback. How do professional camera crews miss something that obvious for a full minute?

I mean, you're not wrong that it looks sloppy, but I think we're being too hard on them. Live sets are super chaotic with tons of people moving around and talking over headsets. That boom operator is probably watching a monitor and the chef at the same time, not just the mic boom. Sometimes stuff happens that fast that you just don't catch it until you're watching the tape later. I've worked on small sets and trust me, you'd be surprised how easy it is to miss a shadow or a dip if you're focused on the audio levels.

Fair point but live sets still shouldn't look that rough.

Honestly, I was in the same boat as kai_burns73 before reading this. You made a really good point though, I never thought about how much multitasking goes on in live TV chaos.
