The golf cart gps said 14th hole but we were at the clubhouse grill
Last Saturday my buddy's new cart GPS showed we were on hole 14, but we were literally parked in front of the snack shack ordering hot dogs. We drove the same loop in his older cart right after and it tracked the turn perfectly, so something about the newer unit's satellite lock was just off. Anyone else have a gadget that straight up lied about where you were for no reason?

Heard a dude on a podcast say those newer GPS units can pick up reflected signals off buildings or trees, which throws the whole position off by a few hundred feet. Makes sense for a cart parked near a metal roofed grill shack, probably too many hot dog wrappers and satellite echoes messing with it.

Three hundred feet, though? That's wild, @torres.blair. I mean, I've seen my phone's little blue dot do the drunk walk near a big glass building downtown, but three football fields of error seems like a whole different planet of messed up. It'd be one thing if we were talking about a few feet and you're trying to find the right parking spot, but three hundred feet puts you on a whole different street. That's basically "I'm pretty sure my car is somewhere in this general postal code" territory. Makes you wonder if the guy on that podcast was testing one of those units with a tinfoil hat on the antenna, honestly.
