Tried that AI voice cloning app for a video edit, it dubbed the wrong person entirely
I was messing around with one of those voice cloning tools last week to fix a mispronounced name in a local news clip I was editing for fun. The app picked up the anchor's voice, but when I applied it to the segment with the weather guy, it swapped the audio so he sounded like the anchor. I mean, it was hilarious but also kinda creepy how easy it was to mix up. Has anyone else had a glitch like that with voice tools, or is it just my luck?
Tbh, that voice mix up is wild but it actually points to something bigger than a glitch. Nobody seems to talk about how these tools can mess with the way we trust audio evidence, like if a fake clip of someone gets out there, the damage is done before anyone checks. @gavin_kim, you mentioned double checking before publishing, but I think the real issue is that even a wrong voice swap sounds so real now that people might not even notice. That little mistake could turn into a whole mess if it happened in live news or a court case, not just a funny edit. Creepy part is how fast we're getting used to that kind of mix up as normal.
The mix-up with the weather guy sounds like something straight out of a glitchy sci-fi show. It fits a bigger pattern I keep noticing where tech shortcuts still mess up the simplest details, like matching a voice to the right face. Your mileage may vary, but I'd double-check any automated tool before publishing, cause the small stuff seems to slip through more than it should.
