Am I the only one who heard a guy at a Columbus game night say Catan is 'just Monopoly with sheep'?

I was at The Soldiery on High Street last Tuesday waiting for my table and this guy kept roasting Catan for 20 minutes, calling it Monopoly with sheep and saying the dice decide everything. I almost jumped in, but then I thought about how often I still bring Catan out for new players even 15 years in, so maybe the trade and build loop is doing more work than he thinks. He wasn't all wrong about the dice though. What's your go-to game for pulling in total beginners, and does Catan even make your list anymore?
