Blew $70 on a custom insert for my copy of Wingspan, and it made setup worse
I bought a laser cut wooden insert for Wingspan at a con in Indianapolis back in March because I hated how long setup took. It cost $70 and looked great in the photos online. Problem is the thing is cut so tight that the egg trays have to go in one exact order or the lid won't sit flush. My wife plays with me on Fridays and she just dumps everything into the box, so now setup takes longer than it did with baggies. I timed it twice and we went from 4 minutes to almost 7 because I have to dig everything back out and re-sort it. Anyone found an insert that actually survives being packed up by a normal person, or should I just go back to ziplock bags?
Seven minutes versus four is annoying but come on, it's three extra minutes once a week. Is that really worth another $70 or a lifetime of baggies? The real fix here is cheap, just keep the egg trays and player mats bagged separately from the big insert, or tell your wife to slow down when she packs it. My group has a rule that whoever dumps stuff in the box has to be there for the next setup, and funny how fast people learn to sort things right.
