Found out my copy of Dune is from the first print run

I was checking the rulebook for something else and saw the tiny '1979' date on the back page. It's the original Avalon Hill version, which I got for five bucks at a yard sale years ago. Anyone else have a game they didn't know was a first edition?

That's a crazy good find for five bucks. Did you ever check if the components are all there and in good shape? I've heard the original print run had some issues with the cards warping or the ink on the map being a bit off. It would be interesting to know if yours has any of those little flaws that make it more authentic.

My copy's map is crisp and the cards lay flat, so maybe those early flaws got fixed fast.

Man, hearing about those early print issues is a real gut punch. I got a copy second-hand once and the cards were all bent like a taco. The map looked fine at first, but under a lamp you could see the colors were kinda blotchy. It's such a letdown when you're excited to play. Makes you really feel for the people who paid full price for that first run.
