I wasted $400 in 2022 on hype buys I played once, so now I log plays on a notepad and if a game survives three sessions at the meetup it earns a spot on my shelf, which has anyone else tried a rule like this or do you just buy whatever looks cool?
There was a thread on BGG a while back about a guy who does a one month cooling off list before any game purchase, and the three play rule seems like the stricter version of that. In my experience the hard part is actually logging the plays, but once you do it, those hype buys start looking pretty silly. Your Tuesday group is basically doing free market research for your shelf.
