I used to sleeve everything, now I only sleeve games I shuffle more than 20 times a session
Bought 1,000 premium sleeves back in 2019 for my copy of Gloomhaven and after about 40 plays I realized I was spending more time fighting sleeves than playing, so now I only sleeve decks that get shuffled constantly like my Arkham Horror LCG mythos packs, and honestly the unsleeved stuff has held up fine sitting on the shelf, has anyone else gone through a sleeving phase and then ditched it?
Did you see that BGG thread where a guy did the math on sleeve wear versus card wear? He figured out that for games you play less than 10 times a year, the sleeves actually wear out faster than the cards would have, since shuffling beats up cheap sleeves way more than it beats up decent card stock. That stuck with me and made me feel way better about leaving most of my shelf unsleeved. I still sleeve my Netrunner decks because those get riffled constantly, but everything else just sits in the box and honestly looks brand new.
