Just found out how many board games are actually released every year, my wallet is crying

I was reading a blog post on a game design site and it said over 5,000 new board games hit the market last year. 5,000! That's like 13 new games every single day. I thought my shelf of maybe 50 games was a decent collection, but now I feel like I'm missing everything. How is anyone supposed to keep up or even know what's good? My game group is already struggling to pick something from my small pile. Has anyone else seen a number like this and just felt totally overwhelmed?

Read an article that called it the "board game singularity", where the rate of new releases makes it pointless to try and keep up. The trick is to just ignore the noise and focus on what your group actually enjoys playing. Chasing every new release is a sure way to burn out and waste money.

It's like trying to drink from a fire hose.

That number is insane, and it makes the whole "cult of the new" thing feel impossible. Just gotta accept you'll only ever play a tiny fraction of them.
