Just realized I've been scoring 7 Wonders wrong for 5 years

My buddy read the rulebook out loud during a game last Saturday and I found out the science bonus only counts complete sets of three, not every single green card, so has anyone else quietly played a core rule wrong for ages or is it just me?

honestly the scattered green cards give way more strategy when played the wrong way, so your group was actually onto something.
