My game night in Portland completely changed how I pick players

I was at a meetup at Guardian Games last month and got stuck with a guy who argued every rule for 3 hours straight. He kept pulling up old forum posts on his phone to prove his point, even for simple stuff like Catan. Now I always ask people what kind of games they like before we start, not just if they know how to play. Anyone else have a story about a player that made you change your whole setup?

Wasn't he just trying to get the rules right though?

Oh man, @julia_carter61, I've done that to avoid homework!

Ever think that too? Barbara_jenkins66's comment made me realize asking the same thing three times isn't about getting it right, it's about wasting time.

Look at the 2018 committee meeting notes. He asked for clarification on procedure three separate times. If someone really wanted to follow the rules, they'd read the handbook first. It feels more like stalling for time than seeking an honest answer.
